Tinubu Approves Land Allocation in Abuja for New Envoys

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the allocation of plots of land in Abuja to Nigeria’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced on Tuesday.

Wike disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the envoys, led by Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Dunoma Umar Ahmed, at his official residence in Life Camp.

He said the move is to ensure the diplomats have a physical base in the capital for consultations and official duties.

“The President believes most of you do not have a place in Abuja. He wants to encourage you to put up somewhere you can stay,” Wike told the envoys, adding that application forms for the land were made available immediately.

The minister urged the diplomats to drive Tinubu’s foreign investment agenda, describing them as “the mirror of this country” whose conduct shapes global perception of Nigeria.

He charged them to promote economic diplomacy and attract investors, particularly in agriculture and waste management in the FCT.

Wike dismissed fears of Nigeria becoming a one-party state, stating, “Nigeria remains a multi-party democracy. There is no plan to turn the country into a one-party state. You must communicate this clearly wherever you serve.”

He also highlighted ongoing FCT partnerships with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the European Commission to boost development and investment inflows.

Earlier, Ahmed said the visit was part of the envoys’ induction programme to familiarize them with Abuja’s role as Nigeria’s administrative and diplomatic hub. He praised the FCT’s transformation under Wike, noting it enhances Nigeria’s global image.
