Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore on Monday mocked former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a viral video from the court session, Sowore directly addressed Malami, saying: “You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari at that time, you were bragging. We warned you then that there is failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you.”Sowore added, “
There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now,” while offering Malami a “revolutionary cap” and acknowledging his resilience:
“At least I’m glad that you are strong. We are not all on the same side even the oppressors are oppressing you now.”
He further stated that no matter how powerful certain individuals are, his group would remain resilient in their stance on the Nigeria project.
Malami, who was present in court, responded calmly: “I can never be down. Well, I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong.”
He also mentioned continuing to attend meetings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), though he missed an opposition summit in Ibadan over the weekend.
The exchange occurred against the backdrop of Malami’s ongoing legal battles, including his challenge against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the interim forfeiture of some of his properties, which he insists are not proceeds of crime.
Sowore used the moment to highlight what he described as failures in Nigeria’s justice system, noting that it now affects even former powerful officials.
The court proceedings continue as both individuals navigate their respective cases.
