The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on April 1, 2026, at around 6:30 am in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town. According to police, the suspect poured a flammable substance, suspected to be petrol, on his father’s body and set him ablaze.
The victim, identified as Nuhu Bakanike, sustained severe burns and was rushed to the hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, April 5.
He said the suspect was apprehended with fresh burns and wounds on his forehead, arms, and toes.
“The suspect is facing charges of patricide, a serious offence under Nigerian law,” Adam stated.
Kabiru Nuhu is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured that justice would be served.
He urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report any signs of domestic violence to the police.
