Victoria ‘Vee’ Adeyele, the reality TV star, has taken a swipe at Nigerian celebrities who publicly express support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Her comments came in response to a now-deleted post by
podcast host Korty, who questioned how much the government might be paying
celebrities to back it publicly.
In her post, Korty EO argued that Nigeria’s economic and
security challenges have narrowed the gap between the middle and lower classes.
She added that despite these struggles, many celebrities
still appear to support the administration.
“I’ve been tryna understand why so many celebrities are
supporting tinubu. How much could they possibly be paying them?” she wrote.
“The middle class is forcefully entering the lower class, so
they are definitely affected by the state of the country. I think l’m naive but
what are they gaining?”
Reacting in the comment section, Vee suggested that some
celebrities genuinely believe the president is performing well, a notion she
dismissed.
“While some seek to gain from their support, you’d be
surprised to find out some of them actually believe he’s doing a good job.
Sense doesn’t come with popularity,” she wrote.
Her outburst comes amid growing public condemnation against
the current administration, with several celebrities increasingly choosing
sides on national issues.
Vee’s comments also follow recent condemnations from public
figures over a deadly attack in Jos.
On the evening of March 29, suspected gunmen stormed the
Gari Ya Waye area of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North, leaving more than 20 residents
dead and several others injured.
Peter Okoye, Ice Prince, Mr Macaroni, and Nathaniel Bassey
were among the celebrities who raised their voices against the violence.
Cubana Chief Priest, the socialite, however, claimed the
deadly attack in Jos was intended to embarrass Tinubu on his 74th birthday.
