Rivers Police Arrest Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victim

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested three members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate and rescued one victim in a successful operation.

The suspects were apprehended on April 14, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. by police operatives from the Emohua Division.

They were linked to the abduction of Chukwudekwu Emmanuel, a Lagos-based resident, who was kidnapped on February 17, 2026, in Etche Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Command’s Spokesperson, Agabe Blessing, said the operation was made possible through intelligence-driven and technology-based policing strategies introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The arrested suspects are:

Chinedu Okoro, 38, from Imo State

Okwudiri Njoku, 32, from Ozuzu in Etche LGA, Rivers State

Onyema Sunday, 25, from Ika in Akwa Ibom State

Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate specialised in luring victims through social media platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Tinder.

They allegedly used fake profiles and images of reputable personalities to gain the trust of their targets before kidnapping them.

The suspects were arrested while attempting to kidnap another victim, Chisom Nwokolo George, who was lured from Anambra State with the promise of an interior decoration job.

Further probe showed the gang was responsible for several other abductions, including that of Jennifer Nnaji (Enugu State) on March 1, 2026, and Lakan Ayodele from Lagos State.A motorcycle with registration number AHD 758 VT used in their operations was recovered from them.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives and assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

He urged members of the public to be cautious when interacting online, to properly verify identities before accepting job offers or business proposals, and to report suspicious activities to the police promptly.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang leader and other members of the syndicate.
