The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have strengthened their long-standing collaboration to enhance the safety and protection of corps members across the country.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
While congratulating the IGP on his appointment and commending the recent inauguration of his crack team, General Nafiu praised the Police Force for its consistent support in ensuring the success of NYSC programmes since the scheme’s inception.
He appealed for maximum security for corps members and NYSC officials, both within and outside orientation camps, as well as protection for corps members’ properties and lodges especially as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The NYSC DG also requested closer collaboration with the Nigeria Police Academy to facilitate the issuance of statutory exemption certificates to its graduates, in line with the NYSC Act which exempts members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies from national service.
In response, the Inspector-General of Police assured the NYSC of continued support, noting that the police already have records of addresses for all corps lodges to enable swift action when needed.
He welcomed the proposal on exemption certificates and pledged enhanced cooperation between the two institutions.
This renewed partnership shows a shared commitment to creating a safer environment for young Nigerian graduates serving their fatherland, amid ongoing security concerns in various parts of the country.
