Police Foil Bomb Plot in Ondo, Arrest Six Suspects


Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have foiled an alleged bomb attack plot targeting key government facilities in Akure, arresting six suspects in the process.


The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, who disclosed this to journalists on Thursday, April 16, 2026, said the suspects were apprehended on April 15 based on credible intelligence about a criminal network planning to use Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).


The operation was carried out in the Oke-Odu area of Akure, where police recovered materials suspected to be components for assembling explosives. 


Items recovered include 217 bottles, a bag of sugar, 17 mobile phones, two laptops, N187,000 cash, motorcycles, and suspected charms.


The arrested suspects are:  

Adekunle Prosper (56)   

Ojo Olumide (39)   

Tope Kolawole (40)

Ahmed Salihu (40)

Bolaji Adebowale (46)

Gbadebo Abidemi (43)

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects may have been preparing explosives for attacks on strategic locations, with a document listing potential targets also recovered.


In a related development, police raided a cult group in Ondo Town and arrested 10 suspects. Among them is Oluwatosin Temitope, a suspected cult leader who was previously declared wanted. 


He is being linked to a shooting incident involving a victim known as “Primo” in March 2026 and another violent episode in 2025.


Items recovered from the cultists include one firearm, cutlasses, a battle axe, cult insignia, and charms. 


They are believed to be members of rival confraternities such as Aiye, Eiye, and Alora.CP Lawal commended his officers for the swift intelligence-led operations and urged landlords and property owners to conduct proper background checks on tenants to prevent criminals from using residential areas for illegal activities.


All suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court after the completion of investigations. 


The police assured residents of their commitment to maintaining security in the state.
