Operatives of the Nigeria Police have successfully foiled a daring bandit attack along the Sabuwa–Kaya road in Katsina State, rescuing five kidnapped victims unhurt.
The incident occurred around 8:17 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, near Unguwar Liman village in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
According to security sources, a large group of armed bandits blocked the highway and abducted five travellers before the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) swiftly mobilised tactical teams to the scene.
The police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, forcing the criminals to flee into the nearby forest, possibly with gunshot wounds.
All five victims were rescued during the operation and confirmed to be in good health.
They have been identified as:
Alhaji Sani Kadanya, 50, from Tashar Kadanya village, Birnin Gwari LGA, Kaduna State
Basiru Aminu, 27, from Kutaimashi village, Birnin Gwari LGA
Aliyu Musa, 30, from Unguwar Gajere village, Birnin Gwari LGA
Ummi Bello, 20, from Sabuwa LGA, Katsina State
Abubakar Abdullahi, 35, from Unguwar Gajere village, Birnin Gwari LGA
Following the rescue, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched clearance operations to track down the fleeing bandits.
