Police Arrest Father, Teenage Son Over Illegal Firearm in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Joseph Kehinde, and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, for the unlawful possession of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask.

The arrests occurred on Sunday, April 5, 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation by operatives of the Quick Response Squad along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road axis in the Lafarge area.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the teenage suspect was intercepted while riding on a tricycle around 11:00 a.m.

A search on him led to the recovery of the illegal firearm, live cartridge, and mask. The boy reportedly told the police that the pistol belonged to his father.

Following the teenager’s confession, detectives swiftly tracked down and arrested the father. Both suspects and the recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal firearms and urged residents to report suspicious activities through the police emergency lines.

The suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
