The Plateau State Police Command has presented cheques totaling N28,509,182 to the families of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The presentation took place on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters in Jos.
State Police Commissioner, CP Bassey Ewah, who represented the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, handed over the funds under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident, and Inspector General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.
CP Ewah described the gesture as a token of appreciation for the supreme sacrifice made by the deceased officers in service to the nation.
He emphasized that the payment aims to provide immediate financial relief to the bereaved families and demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their dependents.
While consoling the families, the Commissioner acknowledged that no amount of money can replace a lost life, but stressed that the support underscores the Force’s dedication to standing by the loved ones of fallen heroes.
He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely and assured them that additional entitlements would be processed and paid in due course.
This welfare initiative highlights ongoing efforts by the police leadership to support families affected by the hazards of law enforcement duties in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
