Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his handling of the condolence visit to Plateau State following the recent deadly attacks in Jos.
Obi faulted the President for limiting his engagement to the airport, where victims and their families were reportedly brought to meet him instead of Tinubu visiting the affected communities directly.
The criticism comes after Tinubu’s brief stop at Jos airport on Thursday, during which he commiserated with stakeholders and victims of the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba that claimed dozens of lives.
The President cited lack of electricity at the airport and a tight schedule, stating he had only about 10 minutes before flying out.
Obi’s remarks reflect broader concerns about the administration’s approach to insecurity and empathy in responding to national tragedies, describing the recurring violence in Plateau as evidence of a desensitised nation under the current leadership.
The development has sparked widespread debate, with other opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar also condemning the airport-only visit as insensitive.
