A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Ulasi, has expressed strong confidence that a potential political alliance or joint ticket involving former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso could transform Nigeria’s political landscape and drive significant national development.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Ulasi described the growing alignment between the two leaders as a bridge-building effort across Nigeria’s regions.
He highlighted their strong followership, noting that Kwankwaso commands immense respect in the North while Peter Obi enjoys widespread support in the South.
“The Peter Obi, Kwankwaso effect is part of the process we are building up, building bridges across this country,” Ulasi said.
“Kwankwaso is not a name you throw out in the North, either is Peter Obi a name you throw out in the South. So if by the grace of God the two of them will come together and one of them emerges as president as we hope the concept of Peter Obi, Kwankwaso is going to turn out to be an exciting and very strong political process that if successful will usher in a new era of development and progress for this country and that is why we are backing Peter Obi.”
Ulasi referenced an informal power rotation understanding, pointing out that the North had eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and argued that the South should complete its own eight-year tenure.
He added that current national dynamics give Peter Obi more than a 60 percent chance of emerging as president.
The PDP leader’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments and discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They reflect growing interest in cross-regional collaboration that could challenge the status quo and bring fresh ideas to governance.
Ulasi’s endorsement of Obi aligns with his recent positive remarks about the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, including a recent meeting between the two in Enugu where they discussed national issues.
He has consistently praised Obi’s integrity, ideas, and potential to deliver tangible progress if given the opportunity.
This latest statement adds to the conversation on possible opposition strategies and the appeal of pairing influential figures from different geopolitical zones to foster national unity and accelerated development.
