Otti Receives PDP Ex-Deputy Governorship Candidate into Labour Party

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has welcomed Dr Jasper Uche, the former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, along with his supporters, into the Labour Party (LP).

The reception took place on Monday at the Governor’s country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. Dr Uche, who recently defected from the PDP to the Labour Party and serves as the founder of the Ihe Abia Organisation, led a delegation to affirm their support for Governor Otti.

Governor Otti expressed appreciation for Uche’s move and commended his commitment to public service beyond politics. He assured the new members of full integration and vowed not to be distracted from his administration’s mission in Abia State.“We will not give up.

We will not be distracted. We have a mission, and until that mission is completed, we won’t stop,” Otti said. He emphasised resilience, faith in divine purpose, and the importance of unity among the Igbo people, adding that the Labour Party remains open to genuine defectors.

The Governor directed the Commissioner for Lands, Mr Chaka Chukwumereije, who is from the same Umunneochi LGA as Dr Uche, to organise a proper reception and integration ceremony for Uche and his team in their local government.

In his remarks, Dr Uche praised Governor Otti’s visible and people-centred achievements across the state. He pledged that he and his supporters would work to deliver strong votes from Umunneochi in the 2027 governorship election, aiming to triple the area’s support for Otti’s re-election bid.

“We have come to complement the efforts of other stakeholders... We are not going to work in silos. Your Excellency, we have come to make the work easier for you,” Uche stated. He noted that his group consists of committed, organic supporters rather than opportunists.

The event was attended by key government officials, including Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, and several commissioners and special advisers, alongside members of the Ihe Abia Organisation.

This defection adds to the growing list of political realignments in Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections, as Governor Otti continues to consolidate support within the Labour Party.
