Ogun State Approves Weekly Day Off and ₦10,000 Transport Allowance for Workers

In a significant move to ease the burden on civil servants amid rising fuel prices and living costs, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for workers.

The initiative, which takes effect from April 2026, will run for an initial period of three months. This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.

According to Onasanya, the measures are designed to provide relief to the state’s workforce following the hike in petrol prices, which has driven up transportation costs and affected the general cost of living.

“Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State... Gov Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state. This is in addition to the payment of ₦10,000.00 special transport allowance as palliatives for three months commencing from April, 2026,” the statement read.

The government expects the relief package to not only support workers but also boost overall productivity. However, workers in essential services, including medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security operatives, and heads of departments will be exempted from the weekly day off but will still receive the transport allowance.

Accounting officers in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been tasked with determining suitable off days for eligible staff to ensure seamless service delivery is maintained.

The Head of Service commended Governor Abiodun for the timely intervention and called on workers to respond with greater dedication and improved efficiency.
