A broad coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Ogun East Senatorial District has unanimously endorsed Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Senate election.
The endorsement was announced during a high-level meeting of party leaders and elected officials from the district, signalling strong early consolidation of support for the governor’s senatorial ambition.
The backing cuts across all major blocs in the district and includes 103 councillors, members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, commissioners, special advisers, women leaders, former public officeholders, and the Ogun East Governor’s Advisory Council.
Speaking on behalf of the legislative caucus, Hon. Bello Olatunde Sikiru (Leader of the House, Odogbolu LG) and Hon. Kunle Sobukanla (Ikenne) praised Governor Abiodun’s developmental record and declared the lawmakers’ full support for his move to the Senate.
At the grassroots level, council chairmen also threw their weight behind the governor. Hon. Funsho Badejo (Ijebu North East) described Abiodun as “a divine asset” to the state, while Hon. Odulate of Sagamu LG emphasised the need for continuity of development.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, conveyed the endorsement of commissioners and special advisers from Ogun East, while Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Funmilayo Efuwape, confirmed the solid support of women leaders across the nine local governments in the district.
In a significant declaration, former Senator Lekan Mustapha formally announced that Prince Dapo Abiodun has been adopted as the consensus candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District.
He added that the senatorial nomination form has already been secured on the governor’s behalf.
Responding on behalf of Governor Abiodun, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, thanked the stakeholders for the overwhelming show of support, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in the governor’s leadership and performance.
The unified endorsement positions Governor Dapo Abiodun as the clear frontrunner for the Ogun East Senate seat in 2027 and demonstrates growing internal cohesion within the APC in the district.
