Ogun Commissioner Denies Rumours of 2027 Deputy Governorship Ambition

The Ogun State Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okunbadejo, has firmly rejected social media reports claiming he is being positioned as a potential running mate or deputy governor nominee for the 2027 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Monday, Okunbadejo described the circulating reports as “misleading and entirely false.” He stressed that he has not held any discussions, consultations, or expressed interest — either publicly or privately in contesting for the deputy governorship position.

“My attention has been drawn to misleading reports circulating on social media suggesting that I, Dapo Okunbadejo, am being considered for the position of Deputy Governor of Ogun State,” he said. “I wish to state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. At no time have I held discussions, engaged in consultations, or indicated interest… in such a position.”

The commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to his current duties, saying his focus remains on supporting the state government’s fiscal and economic reforms.

“My focus remains firmly on my current responsibilities as Chief Economic Adviser and Honourable Commissioner of Finance, where I am fully committed to supporting the ongoing fiscal and economic reforms of the Ogun State Government,” he added.

Okunbadejo urged the public and media outlets to disregard the “unfounded insinuations” and rely solely on verified information from official sources.

The denial comes as political activities intensify in Ogun State following the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for 2027. The decision was reached at a strategic meeting in Abeokuta attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun and several party heavyweights.

This development has triggered fresh speculation and realignments within the Ogun APC ahead of the polls.
