A prominent bandit leader known as Kachallah Auwalu has been gunned down during a fierce shootout between rival armed groups in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The violent confrontation erupted on Saturday, April 18, around 4:35 pm in the Maganda general area a dense forest corridor notorious for bandit activities in the region.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, broke the news on X (formerly Twitter).
He described Auwalu as a key figure in one of the rival bandit factions, wielding significant influence over operations in the Maganda, Kuyello, and Dogon Dawa axis.
The clash is believed to stem from ongoing power struggles among competing armed groups operating in the forested settlements.
Fighting was still ongoing as reports emerged, with unconfirmed information suggesting more casualties on both sides.
Troops from Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma have been placed on high alert. They are closely monitoring the situation and have been directed to exploit any opportunities to neutralize remaining threats and prevent further escalation.
This development comes amid continued efforts by security forces to restore peace in Kaduna's volatile northwest region, where banditry has long plagued communities.
