Nigerian Troops Neutralise 31 Terrorists, Rescue Kidnap Victims – DHQ


Nigerian troops have neutralised no fewer than 31 terrorists and rescued several kidnapped victims in coordinated counter-terrorism operations across the country between April 17 and April 23, 2026.


The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.


In the North-East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI foiled a terrorist attack at Kukareta along the Maiduguri–Damaturu Road in Yobe State, neutralising 21 terrorists. 


They also conducted ambushes and fighting patrols in Borno and Yobe, recovered arms and ammunition, and rescued nine captives who escaped from the Mandara Mountains. 


Troops thwarted attempts by terrorists to recapture the victims and intercepted a suspected logistics supplier conveying fuel concealed in sachet water bags.


In the North-West, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out ambushes and clearance operations in Kaduna and Zamfara states, neutralising terrorists, destroying camps, rescuing kidnapped victims, and intercepting a suspected courier with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials.


In the North-Central region, troops of Operations SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE, and WHIRL STROKE conducted clearance operations, arrested suspected terrorists and collaborators, rescued several kidnapped victims, intercepted arms, ammunition and explosives, and dismantled terrorist camps and illegal hideouts.


In the South-East, troops of Operation UDO KA arrested suspected members of proscribed groups and other criminal elements linked to attacks on security personnel.


The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism in the operations.
