Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under Sector 2, have killed at least 24 terrorists during a fierce encounter in the North-East.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the gun battle occurred on Thursday morning when terrorists launched a determined attack on Kukareta location.
The assault began shortly after midnight and lasted until about 3:00 am. Troops responded swiftly with a coordinated offensive-defensive action, repelling the attackers and forcing them into a disorderly withdrawal.
“During the engagement, troops inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, with 24 terrorists neutralised so far,” the statement said.
Troops recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including 18 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 2 PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, 3 RPG tubes, 2 mortar tubes, 4 hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of belted 7.62mm ammunition.
Two military personnel were wounded in action but have been stabilised. One reinforcing armoured tank sustained damage with all its tyres blown out.
Exploitation operations are still ongoing to recover additional bodies and equipment along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, which are reportedly littered with blood trails and medical consumables.
The statement praised the resilience, combat readiness, and fire superiority of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action.
It added that operations will continue with sustained offensive pressure to decisively defeat all terrorist elements in the Joint Operations Area.
This latest success comes amid ongoing military efforts to combat insurgency in the North-East region.
