Ngoshe: 12 Abducted Victims Escape as Military Bombards Boko Haram Camp

Twelve people abducted by Boko Haram in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, have escaped after military troops bombarded an insurgents’ camp, leaving 404 captives still held.

The escape occurred days after the terrorists issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the federal and state governments, threatening to keep the victims indefinitely and warning against any forceful rescue.

A source from Pulka said the escapees, 10 men and two women fled during military operations that forced the insurgents to abandon some captives and escape with the majority. “One of the victims told us that there were military operations in the areas which forced the insurgents to abandon some of them,” the source said.

Borno South Youth Alliance President Samaila Kaigama confirmed on Wednesday that the escapees are now safe in a nearby town. He named them as Aisha Audu, 20; Hajara Audu, 18 months; Aisha Idrisa, 17; Hafsat Idrisa, 4 months; Aisha Abubakar Bama, 22; Maryam Umar, 11 months; Zainabu Umar Mbasuwa, 22; Salma Abubakar, 2 months; Musa Umar, 7; Suleiman Umar, 9; Aisha Abubakar, 17; and Aisha Musa, 10.

“While we are grateful for this development, we must state clearly that a larger number of victims are still believed to remain in captivity,” Kaigama said.

The victims were among 416 people seized during the March 4 attack on a military base and Ngoshe community, which displaced many survivors to Pulka.

On April 20, Boko Haram faction Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidwatu Wal-Jihad, under Imam Abu Ubaida, released a video demanding ransom from government and warning against forceful rescue attempts.
