NAF air strikes kill ’15 ISWAP fighters’ in Borno

The air component of Operation Hadin Kai has reportedly killed about 15 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during air strikes in Kangarwa, Borno state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the strikes, and targeting key insurgent infrastructure and gathering points within the Kangarwa axis, a known ISWAP stronghold, followed credible intelligence.

Quoting security sources, the publication said battle damage assessment (BDA) from highly reliable intelligence confirmed that the strikes inflicted significant casualties on the terrorists, while several others sustained severe injuries.

“The operation achieved a high degree of precision. Intelligence indicates that at least 15 ISWAP fighters were neutralised, with multiple others wounded,” Makama quoted a source as saying.

“The strike also impacted a structure linked to a senior terrorist commander in the area.”

Makama said the residence of a top ISWAP figure, identified as Malam Nuhu, believed to be the Qaid of Kangarwa, was struck shortly after he vacated the premises.

It noted that the Nigerian military, under Operation Hadin Kai, continues to refine its targeting processes while sustaining pressure on terrorist elements.

According to the publication, strikes are part of ongoing air operations aimed at dismantling ISWAP’s operational capabilities and leadership structure across the north-east.

Makama added that further battle damage assessment is ongoing, including reports from related air operations in the Dogon Chukun axis.
