Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has called
on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing legal battle to determine
the paternity of Liam, his grandson, through DNA testing.
In February, an Ikorodu magistrate’s court authorised three
separate DNA tests to be conducted abroad — two in the United Kingdom and one
in the United States.
According to Oladayo Ogungbe, Aloba’s counsel,
representatives from both parties, including Aloba and Wunmi, Mohbad’s widow,
will oversee the sample collection process. The case has been adjourned until
April 7.
However, in a recent interview with blogger Adebukola, an
agitated Aloba accused the court of mismanaging the process.
He claimed that a welfare officer attached to the case
deliberately selected a fake testing centre. He also alleged complicity within
the Lagos state judiciary.
“I have been calling baba Tinubu. I want to do this DNA and
bury my son. It is an untimely death. It should not have been this long,” he
said.
“If I bury him, how will samples be taken from his body for
the DNA. I am only requesting a DNA. I only need DNA to determine whether I
have a grandson.
“I want to plead with the whole world, not only Lagos state.
They are supporting a criminal. I pray I do not regret coming to Lagos. Do you
know I am returning to Ekiti? I am no longer living in Lagos.”
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, after an injection by an
auxiliary nurse. He was buried the next day but exhumed on September 21 for an
autopsy.
In May 2024, pathologists reported that due to advanced
decomposition, the cause of death could not be determined.
Throughout this period, Aloba has refused to allow his son
to be reburied until Liam’s paternity is legally established.
In September, the court granted his request, ordering the
test be done at a government-approved facility.
