Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, has said that Nigeria’s security remains “uppermost” in the mind of President Bola Tinubu.
Idris stated this while speaking to journalists on Sunday after visiting the president, who is currently in Lagos for the Easter celebrations.
According to the minister, President Tinubu is constantly engaging security chiefs on strategies to achieve lasting peace amid the country’s prevailing security challenges. He added that the federal government is also collaborating with regional and international partners to resolve the situation.
Idris highlighted Tinubu’s recent meeting with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno to discuss security issues in the Sahel region as part of broader regional engagement.“He has also called on me to continue to inform Nigerians that he is indeed listening to them, all the observations about what is happening in the country. Mr. President is listening,” Idris said.
“He’s a keen watcher of events. And as the commander-in-chief, he has asked Nigerians to once again come together, reflect, think deeply about Nigeria, be more patriotic as he works to ensure that issues of security are resolved once and for all.”
The minister noted that Tinubu had just returned from Jos and remains deeply focused on security matters.“He keeps talking and discussing with the security agencies on how we can find a lasting solution, and collaboration with our regional and international partners to ensure that we bring lasting peace to our country,” he added.
Idris also said the president is pleased with positive feedback from international development partners, finance agencies, and rating agencies, noting that the ongoing economic reforms are yielding results and repositioning Nigeria globally.
