Labour Party extends olive branch to Abure, others

The Labour Party (LP) has expressed confidence in its newly inaugurated Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Working Committee (NWC), which held its inaugural meeting after the party’s recent convention.

Leader of the party and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who attended the inaugural meeting in Abuja on Thursday, said the meeting went smoothly, with most members of the new executive physically present.

He congratulated the National Chairman and other members, noting they were found worthy to lead for the next four years.

“The leadership has the capacity to build on past achievements and guide the party through upcoming activities, including primaries and elections,” Otti said.

He said efforts to unify members are yielding results, with several leaders, including former state chairmen, participating in the just-concluded national convention.

Speaking on the party’s level of preparedness for the 2027 general elections, Otti reaffirmed the party’s readiness to contest, stressing that the party remains open to all qualified aspirants.

He said, “Nigeria’s political space remains competitive. Our focus is on strengthening internal structures and providing a credible platform for Nigerians.”

He dismissed claims that the party was being teleguided by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Otti did not rule out the possibility of the party fielding a presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu.
