Resident doctors at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), Ilorin, have embarked on strike following the assault of a female doctor by a relative of a patient.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) condemned the attack, describing it as “inhumane and unacceptable.” The association said the incident highlights the growing threat of violence against healthcare workers in the country.
NARD stated that the strike action will continue until the management of KWASUTH and relevant authorities take concrete steps to ensure the safety and security of medical personnel on duty. The group is demanding improved security measures within the hospital and prosecution of the assailant.
The association also called on the Kwara State Government to urgently intervene to prevent further attacks on health workers and ensure that hospitals remain safe environments for both staff and patients.
