The Singer Market Development Association, in collaboration with the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, is constructing fire-fighting facilities and an office at the market valued at over N1 billion to enable rapid emergency response.
Speaking to newsmen, the chairman of the association,
Barrister Muhammad Junaidu Zakari, said the project is a proactive measure to
address recurring fire incidents.
He said, “because of the frequent fire incidents we have
agreed with the Deputy President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Barau
Jibrin to build over N1 billion fire equipment and offices”.
Zakari explained that the association is working diligently
to tackle fire-related challenges within the market.
“We are also making gates across the market and opening
accessible roads that would allow easy movements of vehicles as against the
traditional ways of blockage we experienced,” added.
The chairman added that over N200 million has been raised
from sympathisers following recent fire incidents, with plans underway to
distribute the funds to affected victims.
He further disclosed that N10 million has already been
distributed to some small-scale businesses as donations from a company,
describing the intervention as unprecedented.
