Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has strongly defended the nomination and confirmation of Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
Speaking on Tuesday while declaring open the 39th Executive Council Meeting at the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf said the decision was based on merit, competence, and a track record of commitment to the state’s development.
The nomination of Garo followed the resignation of the immediate past Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
Last week, the governor forwarded Garo’s name to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation, a process that was completed swiftly.
“We tried as much as possible to select someone who can provide matching contributions toward the development of the state,” the governor said.“
So many names of people were presented, but we have to look into their past performances, look at their competency, and look at what they did to the state before and what they can contribute today.
Murtala Sule Garo is a seasoned politician who can give his own contribution,” he added.
Governor Yusuf commended the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, for the speedy confirmation of the nominee.
He announced that the new Deputy Governor would be sworn in soon and called on all stakeholders to support him in delivering on his mandate.
The governor also congratulated the newly appointed Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, and urged civil servants and stakeholders to rally behind her for successful service delivery.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
During the same Executive Council meeting, Governor Yusuf was presented with 39 Outstanding Excellence Awards from various organisations in recognition of his administration’s performance.
