This was disclosed in a Facebook post on Wednesday by Kamaludden Shawai, spokesperson to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore.
According to the post, the Assembly had officially received correspondence from the governor regarding the nomination of Garo for proper screening and approval.
“The Kano State House of Assembly has officially announced a correspondence of His Excellency’s nominee for the office of Deputy Governor for proper screening and approval,” the statement read.
It added that the screening of Garo had been scheduled to take place on Monday.
It was earlier reported that Governor Yusuf transmitted the name of Alhaji Murtala Garo to the Assembly for screening and confirmation as Deputy Governor.
The nomination was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, the nomination was made in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a governor to nominate a deputy governor where a vacancy exists.
The deputy governorship position became vacant following the voluntary resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
