A community group in Kaduna State has strongly dismissed reports claiming that the Nigerian Army rescued 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter service attack in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area.
The Kuturmi Unity Development Association described the rescue claims as “entirely false and misleading.”
In a statement issued on April 6, 2026, association president J.D. Ariko said the abducted persons remain in captivity, with their families still in direct contact with the kidnappers, who confirmed the victims are alive and being held at their camp.
The denial follows earlier media reports of a successful military operation that freed the worshippers after suspected bandits invaded two churches in Ariko on Easter Sunday, killing several people and abducting scores of others.
Ariko expressed concern that the inaccurate information could create false hope for grieving families, cause confusion, and damage public trust in official communications.
He urged security agencies to release only verified details on such sensitive matters.
While appreciating ongoing security efforts, the community leader stressed that securing the safe and unconditional release of the abducted worshippers remains the top priority and called for intensified, coordinated action by all stakeholders.
The Nigerian Army had not issued an official response to the community’s denial at the time of the original report.
