The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has
clarified why the results of some candidates who sat for the ongoing unified
tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) have not been released in the past
days.
In a statement on Tuesday, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s
spokesperson, said the board had received several inquiries from parents
regarding candidates who have received “No Result Yet” message while attempting
to check their results.
According to him, the status does not indicate a technical
fault but applies specifically to underage candidates whose results are yet to
be released.
“Please be informed that results for underage candidates
have not been released,” the statement reads.
“When such candidates attempt to check their results, the
system will return the message ‘No Result Yet”.
Fabian said, in line with existing regulations, only
candidates who will be at least 16 years old by 30th September 2026 are
eligible to register for and write the UTME.
He, however, noted that underage candidates may be
considered under an exceptional category if they demonstrate outstanding
ability by scoring 320 and above in the UTME, as well as attaining at least 80
percent in subsequent screening stages.
“In line with the agreement reached and endorsed by parents
of these underage candidates, only those who score 320 and above will be
shortlisted and invited to proceed to the next stages of the screening,”
Bemjamin added.
“Successful candidates at that stage may then be considered
for admission under the exceptional candidates provision. For now, results for
underage candidates remain unreleased.”
On Tuesday, the board released results for the 2026 UTME
conducted on April 20.
On Sunday, the board also released 1,264,940 results for the
examination conducted on Friday and Saturday.
It had earlier released 632,752 results from Thursday’s
examination, bringing the total released before Monday to 1,897,692.
Candidates had expressed concerns over delays in the release
of Friday’s UTME results, saying they incurred charges while checking multiple
times following JAMB’s assurance of release.
However, the board dismissed calls for refunds over the
charges, insisting it did not officially announce the release before Sunday.
