Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz to Commercial Shipping After Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire

Iran has fully reopened the strategic Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels, citing the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

The announcement was made on Friday by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi via social media.

“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Araghchi stated.

The move follows a US-brokered ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which was announced earlier by President Donald Trump.

The truce is part of a broader two-week ceasefire deal reached between Iran and the United States after peace talks facilitated by Pakistan.

Although Israel stopped attacks on Iran following the agreement, it continued strikes in Lebanon, prompting Iran to warn that such actions violated the ceasefire terms and could derail ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies passes daily.

Its closure or disruption in recent weeks had raised concerns over energy prices and maritime trade.

The reopening is expected to ease tensions in global energy markets, at least for the duration of the current truce.
