A former governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has expressed support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s decision to endorse Senator Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor.
Al-Makura made this known on X while reacting to the ongoing
political discussions in the state, saying the governor has the right to choose
who he believes should succeed him.
“I support Governor Sule’s choice of Wadada,” he said.
He explained that no one should be stopped from supporting
any candidate.
He added that such decisions are part of democratic
politics.
“Anybody supporting a candidate should support the
candidate,” he said.
He called for peaceful conduct among supporters.
Al-Makura urged politicians and their followers to follow
due process and act with fairness in order to maintain peace in the state.
“If we want to live in peace, we should follow the rules,”
he said.
He also noted that Governor Sule’s action is similar to what
he did when he was in office, recalling how he endorsed Sule as his successor
at the time.
“I am aware that our governor has endorsed my brother
Wadada… and he did well because it is his choice. Nobody can stop him from
having that opinion,” he said.
“I also endorsed governor Sule during my time and nobody
stopped me,” he added.
Al-Makura, however, said he would now be more reserved in
his public comments.
He concluded by wishing everyone well and calling for unity.
