Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, has announced his decision to leave the Labour Party and join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
In a statement on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during an appearance on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed said he would formally exit the Labour Party at midnight and move to the PRP, describing the latter as “the new destination” with a rich historical background.
He attributed his decision to ongoing internal disagreements within the Labour Party, adding that the party has drifted significantly from its original ideals and values.
“What Labour Party stood for then is no longer what it is today,” he stated.The development is seen as a major political shift, coming barely a year before the 2027 general elections.
It further signals the deepening crisis and factionalisation within the Labour Party since the 2023 polls.
