Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has alleged that his former deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, plotted to impeach him and take over as governor.
The governor made the revelation on Thursday while hosting praise singers (Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida) at the Government House, Kano.
Yusuf said although the former deputy resigned from office, he has not even seen his resignation letter, stressing that his administration did not offend him in any way.
“Today, the deputy governor who came with us on the same ticket is no longer with us. Nobody offended him. In fact, I have not even seen his resignation letter,” he said.
“Whatever made him act that way was an attempt to remove me and take the position, but God did not allow it.”
The governor also expressed disappointment over the treatment of his former deputy within the Kwankwasiyya movement, questioning why he was not given the opportunity he allegedly sought.
He used the occasion to hit back at critics who accused him of betrayal for leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), insisting that his decision was taken in the best interest of Kano people.
Yusuf argued that true betrayal lies in the current political permutations within the Kwankwasiyya camp, particularly the alleged preference for new entrants and former political opponents over loyal members.
“Now, the person who was once our biggest enemy... is the one they are now putting forward. Is that not a betrayal?” he asked.
The governor maintained that his administration remains focused and that several credible individuals have already shown interest in filling the vacant deputy governorship position.
