Nasiru Gawuna, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
On Monday, Gawuna announced his resignation as the chairman
of the board of directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN),
effective on March 27, in compliance with the recent directive of President
Bola Tinubu to political appointees.
Later in the day, he also resigned from the APC in a letter
dated March 29, 2026, and addressed to the party’s chairman in Gawuna ward,
Nassarawa LGA, describing his decision as “voluntary and personal.”
On Tuesday, the former deputy governor of Kano registered as
an ADC member and received his membership card in Gawuna ward of Nasarawa LGA.
Rabi Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, Aminu Gwarzo,
immediate past deputy governor of the state, and Musa Ungogo, ADC’s state
chairman, alongside thousands of the party’s supporters, were at the event.
Gawuna expressed gratitude to his supporters and party
leaders and assured them of his commitment to strengthening the ADC in the
state.
His defection was due to the shift in the political
alliances by key actors in the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
