The Super Eagles of Nigeria have retained their 26th position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles’ position in the global ranking did not
change following mixed results in the friendly matches played during the period
under review.
Between March 27 and 31, Nigeria defeated Iran 2-1 but were
held to a 2-2 draw by Jordan in the two matches played at the four-nation
invitational friendly tournament held in Turkey.
In January, shortly after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
(AFCON), the Eagles rose 12 places to 26th in the world — the team’s highest
ranking since 2010.
The top 10 teams in Africa did not change positions, with
the Super Eagles maintaining third place on the continent, behind first-placed
Morocco, which retained its eighth position in the world, while Senegal, which
retained second place in Africa, dropped two places to 14th in the world.
São Tomé e PrÃncipe recorded the largest slide down the
rankings among African nations, dropping seven places to 196th, while Eswatini
and Chad also dropped six places each to 165th and 183rd, respectively.
France replaced Spain at the top of the global ranking. La Furia Roja dropped to second, with Argentina, the reigning World Cup winners, in third, while Brazil dropped to sixth. Kosovo achieved its highest ranking yet, moving up to 76th place.
The next FIFA ranking update will be released on the eve of
the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 10.
