Former senator Kabir Marafa, a former senator who represented Zamfara Central, has formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement on Tuesday, Seriake Dickson, former governor
of Bayelsa, said Marafa brought a number of his supporters with him, describing
the move as a major boost to the party’s presence in Zamfara.
According to the party, Marafa, a prominent figure in
Zamfara politics, committed himself to advancing the NDC’s vision and leading
the party’s structures in the state.
“The National Chairman, other members of the leadership, and
I warmly welcomed him as he declared his commitment to advancing the vision of
the NDC and taking its message to Zamfara State as the leader of the party in
the state,” the statement reads.
“We call on all Nigerians, especially the good people of
Zamfara State, to continue to pray and work for peace, stability, and
development, values which Senator Marafa will no doubt promote and showcase on
the platform of the NDC.
“We thank him and all Nigerians for their belief in, and
trust for, the NDC vision.”
The NDC also commended Nigerians for what it called a
massive registration drive, noting that the party has become the
fastest-growing political force in the country in less than three months.
“As we look forward to conducting our primary elections
towards the end of May, we remind all those who intend to hold party positions
or contest elections on the platform of the NDC to complete their registration
within the remaining days of the membership exercise,” the party said.
