Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has thrown his support behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying the administration’s reforms, if sustained beyond 2027, could reshape Nigeria’s socio-economic and political landscape.
Adamu, who is eyeing the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election, commended the removal of fuel subsidy, noting it has significantly boosted monthly allocations to states and local governments.
He challenged governors to account for how the increased revenues have been utilised since 2023.Speaking at a media parley, the former police chief stressed the need for continuity of the President’s reform agenda.
“Mr President deserves re-election. He has initiated bold reforms that will yield long-term benefits for Nigerians,” he said.
Adamu also dismissed criticism of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing the project as a strategic investment with massive economic benefits.
The ex-IGP said his extensive security experience across Nigeria positions him strongly to tackle insecurity in Nasarawa and neighbouring states if elected governor.
“Safety is the foundation of development. Without security, every promise on jobs, roads and healthcare collapses,” he noted.
He pledged to prioritise youth and women empowerment, infrastructure development (especially power and rural roads), and access to clean water.
Adamu also expressed support for state policing, breaking ranks with some former police chiefs who oppose the idea.
