EFCC dismisses viral wanted posters of comedian Sabinus

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed a viral wanted poster bearing the image of popular Nigerian comedian, Emmanuel Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, describing it as fake and misleading.

The commission made this known on Thursday via a post on its official social media page, where it stamped the circulating poster “FAKE NEWS” and cautioned those behind it to desist from spreading false information.

“Clout chaser, Stop this now!” the EFCC wrote in the caption accompanying the post.

The doctored poster, which had gained traction across various social media platforms, carried the EFCC logo and alleged that Sabinus, 43, was wanted for obtaining money by false pretence.

It also listed a purported last known address as 13/14 Ligali Ayomide Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

Findings showed that the poster mimicked the design and format typically used by the anti-graft agency in declaring suspects wanted.

The commission did not indicate whether it had identified or was tracking the individual or group responsible for the doctored material.

Sabinus, known for his skits and online comedy content, has built a large following both within and outside Nigeria.

He has not publicly reacted to the development as of the time of filing this report.

The EFCC has repeatedly warned against the spread of fake content, urging the public to verify information from official sources before sharing.
