‘Court advised me to rub minds with his wife’ — Mohbad’s dad laments over Liam’s paternity

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has renewed his calls for a courtordered DNA test to determine the paternity of his grandson Liam.

In a recent interview with Channels TV, Aloba expressed frustration over the slow pace of the legal proceedings and criticised the magistrate court for allegedly failing to compel Wunmi, Mohbad’s widow, to present the child for testing.

In February, an Ikorodu magistrate court authorised three separate DNA tests to be conducted abroad — two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States.

The court also adjourned the case until April 7. According to Oladayo Ogungbe, Aloba’s counsel, representatives from both parties are to oversee the sample collection process.

However, Aloba told TVC that he had expected the court to issue a direct order requiring Wunmi to submit Liam for testing. Instead, he claimed, the court advised him to resolve the matter amicably with her.

“There is nothing like that, even the magistrate court said I should go and rub minds with Mohbad’s girlfriend, that she should allow me. By hearing that, at least I was expecting them to compel her to submit that child because we are looking for the truth, nothing but the truth,” he said.

“I am pleading to the whole world, I just want to be sure of my grandson’s paternity, whether or not he belongs to me.”

Aloba recently pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the case. He also accused the court of mismanaging the process.

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, after an injection by an auxiliary nurse. He was buried the next day but exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy.

In May 2024, pathologists reported that due to advanced decomposition, the cause of death could not be determined.

Throughout this period, Aloba has refused to allow his son to be reburied until Liam’s paternity is legally established.

In September, the court granted his request, ordering the test be done at a government-approved facility.
