Commanding Officer, Six Soldiers Killed in Monguno Borno After Repelling Terror Attack

Grief has engulfed the nation following the death of a dedicated Commanding Officer and six courageous soldiers of Operation HADIN KAI who lost their lives shortly after successfully repelling a terrorist infiltration attempt in Monguno, Borno State.

On the night of April 12, troops from Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force (North East) at the Charlie 13 location came under attack by terrorists attempting to infiltrate their position. The soldiers responded swiftly and decisively, engaging the assailants in a fierce firefight that forced the terrorists to retreat, securing the area.

Tragically, the victory came at a heavy cost. Driven by a profound sense of responsibility and concern for his troops, the Commanding Officer advanced toward the area to personally evaluate the situation. As his vehicle moved forward, it struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), instantly killing the officer and six of his men.

The fallen heroes were fathers, brothers, sons, and loyal comrades who answered the call to protect their country. They stood firm against terror, defended their positions without hesitation, and paid the ultimate price for the safety of others.

In a statement, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, expressed profound sorrow over the loss. He described the Commanding Officer as a shining example of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to duty, noting that their sacrifice will remain forever etched in the hearts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the entire nation.

As Nigeria mourns its fallen defenders, their bravery serves as a powerful reminder that the peace and security many enjoy are often secured through the selfless courage and ultimate sacrifice of these gallant men. May their souls rest in perfect peace.
