Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has debunked claims that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism agreement with Turkey has a religious agenda.
Musa was reacting to a viral article alleging that the “counter-terrorism cooperation” deal signed with Turkey was intended to “methodically institutionalize Jihad across every institution of Nigerian life.”
Describing the claim as false, the minister said the security pact is purely professional and focused on strengthening Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
“Nigeria’s engagement with Turkey on counter-terrorism is not based on religious sentiments,” Musa stated.
The Nigeria-Turkey security partnership covers areas such as intelligence sharing, military training, and defence cooperation to tackle insurgency and other security threats.
Musa stressed that all of Nigeria’s defence collaborations are guided by national interest and the need to secure lives and property, not by religion or ideology.
The minister urged the public to disregard misinformation that could inflame religious tensions or undermine national security efforts.
