Nigerian businessman and internet personality, Isaac Fayose, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his plan to contest in the 2027 presidential election, describing the move as “selfish” and ill-timed.
Fayose’s reaction follows Atiku’s recent remark on Arise TV
on Wednesday that the 2027 general election could be his final opportunity to
become Nigeria president.
Reacting Fayose questioned Atiku’s decision to consider
another run, arguing that it disregards the prevailing political sentiment on
power rotation.
“So Atiku wan come back to do what? To contest another time?
That shows he is a very selfish man and a selfish leader,” Fayose said.
“How can Atiku be thinking of coming back? Where is the
energy? Over 70 percent of Nigerians are below 50 or 60. What is going on? This
is selfishness,” he added.
“You contesting again, you don try, try. Even the president
Tinubu don try to make you president, you failed sir. It is southern time,
allow us to have our eight years. That is being selfish.
“It is southern time. Allow us to have our eight years. That
is fairness,” he stated.
“Atiku coming back to be on the ballot means he is working
for Tinubu,” Fayose alleged.
“Because Atiku's son is already with Tinubu. Why will Atiku
want to come back when we still have four years South?” He said.
