Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will step aside for Peter Obi if the former Anambra State governor wins the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
Atiku made the remark during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday evening when asked directly if he would step down should Obi emerge as the party’s candidate.
“Yes, I will step aside for any winner,” Atiku said. When pressed on whether that includes Peter Obi, he replied, “Of course, if he is a contender, why not?”
He added that there is nothing difficult about it, describing it as the nature of democracy. “It is either you go through consensus or you go through election. You emerge through consensus or emerge through the electoral process.”
Atiku and Obi are seen as frontrunners for the ADC presidential ticket, alongside other notable figures like Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi.
