Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the escalating wave of violent attacks across Nigeria, describing them as a serious threat to the nation’s peace, unity, and stability.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, Atiku expressed deep concern over the “continued acts of terrorism and brigandage” targeting innocent citizens.
He stressed that such violence “must never be allowed to define who we are as a people.”
The former presidential candidate extended his condolences to the families of victims and affected communities, while urging the government to act with greater urgency and coordination.
“The foremost responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property,” Atiku said.
“It is therefore imperative that renewed urgency, coordination, and resolve be brought to bear in confronting this challenge and restoring public confidence.”
He also welcomed ongoing support from the United States in the fight against terrorism and called for sustained international cooperation to tackle the crisis.
Atiku’s statement comes as Nigeria grapples with a fresh spate of deadly incidents. In Borno State, a coordinated assault on a military base in Benisheikh resulted in the deaths of several soldiers, including Brigadier-General O.O. Braimah.
