A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the APC Solidarity Group, has petitioned the national and state leadership of the party to reject the planned defection of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
The group’s Secretary, Abubakar Abdullahi, addressed journalists on Friday, April 10, 2026, listing 10 major reasons for their opposition.
These include the governor’s persistent criticism of the APC and President Bola Tinubu, existing rivalries with key Bauchi APC figures such as Isa Yuguda, Yakubu Dogara, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Shehu Buba Umar, as well as concerns over trust, internal instability, and electoral risks.
The group warned that admitting Governor Mohammed could damage the party’s unity and erode the momentum built ahead of the 2027 elections.
“A political party should be a home to all, but in Bauchi State, we must be careful not to do anything that will weaken our efforts to reclaim the state,” Abdullahi said.
Governor Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, is yet to publicly declare his next political move following crises in the PDP and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, strong indications point toward a possible shift to the APC.
