Amosun Denies Asking Aspirants to Step Down for 2027 Senatorial Race

Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has denied reports that he asked other aspirants to step down from the 2027 senatorial race.

Amosun, who currently represents Ogun Central Senatorial District, described the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on his behalf by his media aide, the senator clarified that he did not hold any meeting where he demanded that other interested aspirants withdraw from the race.

“No such meeting took place, and the former governor did not ask anybody to step down,” the statement read.

The denial follows allegations that Amosun convened a meeting with potential aspirants and instructed them to shelve their ambitions in his favour ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Amosun reaffirmed that he remains committed to serving the people of Ogun Central and will continue to focus on delivering quality representation.

He urged the public to disregard the rumour, describing it as the handiwork of political mischief makers bent on causing disunity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The clarification comes as political activities gradually heat up towards the 2027 elections, with several aspirants already showing interest in the Ogun Central Senatorial seat.
