Leaders and elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Government Area have strongly insisted that the next governor of Ondo State must be an indigene of Akure.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure at the weekend, the party leaders declared their support for zoning the governorship position to Akure, describing it as a matter of equity, fairness, and political inclusiveness.
The meeting, convened under the leadership of Prince Tony Ala, reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the leaders stated that Akure community is now ripe and deserves to produce the next governor of the state.
The communiqué was signed by Prince Tony Ala, Sunday Adejuyigbe, Ifedayo Ologometa, Dele Faboro, Idowu Otetubi, Femi Bello, Elder Michael Olusanya Ojuola, Ifedayo Adewole, Oluranti Fakinlede, Sunday Faleye, Muyiwa Adebayo, Enas Mohammed, Francis Belonwu, Rev. Abisola Oluwatayo, and Mr Ayo Alabi, among others.
The position of the Akure APC leaders adds a new dimension to the emerging succession politics in Ondo State as Governor Aiyedatiwa’s tenure gradually winds down.
