Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has declared that candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections will be selected based on merit, loyalty to the party, and winnability.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the governor warned aspirants against “do-or-die” politics and desperation, urging them to embrace unity, discipline, and respect for party supremacy.
“It is not a do-or-die affair. If you are not chosen, do not rock the boat. Remain in the party. One day, opportunity will come,” Aiyedatiwa said, citing his own past electoral experience as a lesson in patience and perseverance.
He explained that the candidate selection process would involve nomination forms, screening, and either direct primaries or consensus arrangements, depending on what stakeholders agree upon.
The governor also set a bold target for the party in Ondo State: delivering one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He highlighted ongoing federal infrastructure projects as evidence of progress under APC governance and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting inclusiveness within the party.
Party leaders and stakeholders at the meeting reaffirmed their support for Governor Aiyedatiwa and President Tinubu, calling on all members to maintain unity, respect party decisions, and prioritise long-term political stability over personal ambitions.
