ADC Crisis: APC Does Not Want Viable Opposition – Kola Ologbondiyan

Kola Ologbondiyan, Media Adviser to embattled African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman Senator David Mark, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately sponsoring crises in opposition parties to prevent the emergence of a strong and viable alternative ahead of future elections.

In a statement reacting to the ongoing leadership tussle in the ADC and related issues with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ologbondiyan described the divisions within political parties as manufactured.

“The supposed crises in political parties are being sponsored. The protest by the ADC leaders is simply to tell the president and those encouraging division that they will have a day of reckoning,” he said.

Ologbondiyan argued that the ruling party is uncomfortable with a united and functional opposition, particularly as the ADC positions itself as a platform for a broad coalition including prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and others.

The comments come amid heightened tensions in the ADC following a leadership crisis that has seen factions emerge, protests at INEC headquarters, and allegations of external interference in the party’s internal affairs.

ADC leaders recently staged a peaceful demonstration in Abuja, protesting what they called INEC’s partisanship in the matter.

Ologbondiyan, a veteran politician and former PDP National Publicity Secretary who has aligned with the ADC movement, maintained that the current challenges are not organic but part of a larger strategy to weaken opposition voices and tilt the political landscape in favour of the APC.

Political observers note that the ADC has become a rallying point for opposition forces seeking to challenge the ruling party in 2027, with several high-profile defections and realignments already reported.

The APC has previously dismissed similar allegations, challenging the opposition to provide concrete evidence of any interference.
